Milestone

What is a milestone in a software project?

A milestone is a concrete, verifiable delivery point within a software project — for example, a working feature, an integrated module, or a deployed release — defined in advance and used to measure real progress, instead of "we're making progress" status updates. It's the smallest unit against which you can say with certainty whether something was delivered or not.

How it's used

It's used to break a long project into smaller, reviewable deliveries, and — in escrow-based models — to determine when each payment is released: each delivered and verified milestone triggers the release of its corresponding portion of funds.

On Zenit, SafePay releases held funds milestone by milestone, not all at once at the end of the project. How SafePay works.
