Development squad
What is a development squad?
A development squad is a small, multidisciplinary team — typically 2 to 6 people — that builds and delivers a software product or feature end to end, combining whatever mix of frontend, backend, design, or QA skills the project needs. Unlike hiring individual freelancers, the squad already works as a team before joining a project: it shares a way of working, communication, and joint accountability for what it ships.
How it's used
The term is used to distinguish this model from hiring people one role at a time: instead of assembling a team piece by piece, a company hires an already-coordinated squad and plugs it into a project with a defined scope and timeline.
